Settlement Reached In Class Action Against The Esmor Corporation
Class Actions and Mass Torts
The Firm filed a class action, known as the Brown Class Action, on behalf of certain illegal aliens seeking political asylum in the United States. These people were incarcerated by the INS, over a ten-month period, at a private detention facility operated by the Esmor Corporation in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The detainees were harassed, assaulted, and subjected to other abusive practices and conditions at the detention facility.
After years of litigation, a settlement has been reached with Esmor, pursuant to which Esmor will pay $2.5 million into a Settlement Fund for distribution to 68 qualified members of the Brown Class.
